On Earth
In 2011 the Lucian Alliance struck at the Tau’ri (Earth) by crashing a Tel’tak (Goa’uld cargo ship) loaded with a naquadah bomb into what they thought Earth’s leading military building, the Pentagon. While the bomb was defused thanks to members of the Destiny Expedition (in the bodies of a United States of America congress woman and a scientist using communication stones), there was physical, eyewitness, and photographic evidence of what happened.
This sparked fears of alien invasion and holy wars worldwide. For the better part of a year the nations of the world tried to calm the panic but on February 20th, 2012 the USA along with those nations that knew about the Stargate made a united press briefing to inform the world of the existence of the Stargate and the greater knowledge of the Stargate program, the state of the Milky Way, Pegasus, Scansio, and Ida galaxies, as well as our allies and enemies. The world didn’t calm down, it instead calmed up. While some wandered who was in charge others, like the Taliban and West Baptist Church railing at the twisting of religion perpetrated by the Goa’uld and Ori. Concern was made that the USA military (Homeworld Command) was in charge even with oversight from the N.I.D. (National Intelligence Department) and I.O.A. (International Oversight Advisory). Debates and conferences all over the world tried to make the decision as to whom should be in control and what role the Earth should play in the universe.<
In late 2014 after pulling back funding and scope of Earth’s involvement in the most affairs in the galaxy, the Stargate Union was formed and Stargate Command and all its assets were transferred to the United Nations while the I.O.A. was disbanded. The U.S.A. kept the N.I.D., broadening their purview to the entire U.S. military. Under the U.N.’s control, exploration and military missions were shelved while embassies and ambassadorial positions were created for key worlds Earth wanted to keep ties with. While minor military operations were performed on behalf of Earth’s allies, the Stargate Program has been used as little more than transportation or communication for allied worlds and the Pegasus Expedition.
