Stargate Union Fleet
Six months ago, Stargate Command relocated to its new lunar headquarters, a testament to human ingenuity and technological advancement. Inspired by the legendary city-ship Atlantis, the base boasts a similar six-spoked design, though scaled down in size and complexity.
The six arms, designated A through F, radiate from a central hub. Arms A and D house utility, maintenance, and laboratory facilities, each culminating in a launchpad for spacecraft. The remaining four arms are dedicated to residential quarters, accommodating the base's diverse population of over 6,000 personnel.
Beneath the lunar surface, the base extends three levels deep, housing essential infrastructure and support systems. Most of the multi-story facilities are underground, including a well-stocked library, a recreational area with a swimming pool, and the impressive embarkation room that rises three levels above gound. A narrow ring, some fifteen feet high connects the spokes and encircles the entire base, creating a unique and imposing silhouette against the lunar landscape.
While not a mobile vessel like Atlantis, the new Stargate Command base embodies the spirit of exploration and discovery that defines the Stargate program. Its advanced technology, robust defenses, and strategic location on the Moon make it a formidable bastion of human ingenuity and a symbol of Earth's growing presence in the galaxy.
Living Quarters
Each of the four residential arms houses 2200-2500 personnel in a mix of dormitory-style housing (primarily for GS-4 and below) and apartment-style accommodations. Three buildings per arm are arranged in a triangular formation, enclosing a park-like courtyard and offering balconies with stunning lunar vistas, made possible by the base's advanced shielding technology. Building B-1 is reserved for personnel with families, featuring larger apartments and a dedicated playground area.
Whether residing in a dormitory or an apartment, all personnel at Stargate Command enjoy comfortable living quarters equipped with modern amenities. Each unit features essential furnishings such as beds, desks, lockable wardrobes, personal computers, streaming-capable TVs, and private bathrooms. Dormitory rooms are primarily double occupancy, with a limited number of single rooms available. Apartments, designed to accommodate families, can have up to three bedrooms, with the majority being single or double bedrooms with or without a den.
High-ranking individuals, including department heads, visiting dignitaries, Stargate Union representatives, and the base commander, reside in the luxurious Atlantis-inspired towers that rise from the central hub. These exclusive residences offer unparalleled comfort and privacy, befitting their occupants' status and responsibilities.
Recreation and Amenities
Each residential building fosters a sense of community with common areas on every level, equipped with pool tables, foosball, ping-pong, TVs, and gaming consoles. Shared kitchens, complimentary laundry facilities (BYOS – bring your own soap!), and quiet study rooms cater to residents' diverse needs.
The sublevels beneath the residential arms transform into a vibrant entertainment hub, boasting dining facilities, theaters, restaurants, bars, and clubs. The theaters showcase recent movies and occasional Broadway productions at affordable prices, with staggered showtimes to encourage mingling between residents of different arms. Live music performances, comedy shows, and trivia nights offer diverse entertainment options. Duty free shops are located in several locations but most frequently the under-promenades, making them seem more like mini shopping malls than walkways to and from the living quarters. While most amenities are budget-friendly, the central spire houses upscale shops and restaurants catering to discerning tastes.
Although casinos are absent, card rooms provide spaces for board games, card games, and even tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). Conference rooms, often booked by avid TTRPG enthusiasts, offer additional space for gatherings. Each bar and club boasts a unique theme, drinks, and food, including a lively karaoke bar, a sports bar with live broadcasts from Earth, and a retro arcade for nostalgic fun.
Certain arms offer specialized facilities: Arm B caters to families with a daycare and schools, while Arm C houses a vast library accessible to all. All arms feature free fitness centers with diverse workout equipment, sports courts, and rooms for yoga and Pilates. Arm E boasts an indoor pool and hot tubs, while Arm F offers a luxurious spa for those seeking pampering.
Future plans include transforming the spaces between the arms into verdant parks and community gardens, enhancing the scenic appeal of the promenades along the spokes of each arm. Currently, residents can enjoy the breathtaking view of Earth from the promenades while indulging in refreshments from various cafes and food carts.
Defences
The Stargate Moon Base stands as a testament to the Tau'ri's growing technological prowess, incorporating advanced defensive systems from various allies. Powering this formidable fortress are three Naquadah-fueled Asgard neutrino-ion generators, capable of sustaining the base's operations even under heavy combat conditions.
The base's primary defense is its Lantean-designed shield, an airtight barrier that not only protects against energy weapons and projectile attacks but also maintains a breathable atmosphere within the facility. This shield also possesses cloaking capabilities, rendering the base virtually invisible to most detection methods.
The entire structure, constructed from a resilient naquadah-trinium alloy, is further fortified with an array of Asgard beam emitters, railguns, and missile launchers strategically positioned throughout the facility. These powerful weapons systems provide a layered defense, capable of repelling even the most determined assaults.
For transportation and tactical operations, the base houses a squadrons of F-302A fighter-interceptors, as well as F-302D "Puddle Jumpers" and F-302E heavy Shuttles for ferrying personnel and supplies between Earth and the moon base. Additionally, the base utilizes Asgard beaming technology, Ancient ring transporters and Lantian transporter booths for rapid personnel movement within the facility and to nearby locations.
Infrastructure
Rising majestically from the central hub, the Stargate Moon Base's central spire and five auxiliary spires dominate the lunar landscape. The central spire, a towering testament to human achievement, houses the administrative heart of the base, along with luxurious accommodations and exclusive entertainment venues for visiting dignitaries and high-ranking personnel.
Four of the auxiliary spires are dedicated to scientific inquiry, their numerous levels filled with state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. Here, brilliant minds delve into the mysteries of astrophysics, xenobiology, advanced materials, and other cutting-edge fields, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and unlocking the secrets of the universe.
The fifth spire, a bastion of security and military might, houses the armory, brig, self-destruct control room, and locker rooms for the base's security personnel. Its imposing presence serves as a constant reminder of the ever-present threats lurking in the vast expanse of space.
Beneath the surface, a sprawling network of sublevels houses essential infrastructure and support systems. A fully equipped hospital, complete with advanced medical technology and specialized containment units, ensures the health and well-being of the base's personnel. Natural science research labs and a state-of-the-art morgue facilitate the study of alien lifeforms and artifacts, while vast storage areas house supplies and equipment for long-duration missions.
The heart of the base, the Embarkation room, occupies a significant portion of the sublevels, rising four stories to connect with the first three floors of the central spire. This grand chamber serves as the gateway to the stars, where teams prepare for their journeys through the Stargate. Surrounding the Embarkation room are the base commander's office, his assistant's office, a briefing room, an auxiliary conference room, the Stargate control room, and an observation room/café where personnel can relax and watch as people come and go through the gate.
Hanger and Maintenance Bays
While the arms of the Stargate Moon Base primarily serve as conduits between the residential areas and the central hub, Arm D conceals a sprawling subterranean complex dedicated to the maintenance and deployment of the SGC's aerial arsenal. Beneath its surface, and extending into the space between the spokes, lies a cavernous hangar bay.
Within this vast chamber, a diverse fleet of spacecraft stands ready for action. Thirty F-302A fighter-interceptors, the backbone of Earth's space defense, await their pilots. Ten advanced F-302Bs, boasting enhanced weaponry and maneuverability, stand poised for high-risk missions. A squadron of versatile F-302D "Puddle Jumpers" provides rapid transport through the Stargate, while two F-302C heavy fighters and F-302E heavy shuttles offer additional firepower and logistical support. Larger vessels, such as the majestic Daedalus-class battlecruisers, must utilize the base's two external landing pads due to their size.
Adjacent to the hangar bay, a sprawling maintenance bay bustles with activity. Here, skilled technicians meticulously maintain and repair the base's fleet, ensuring peak performance and operational readiness. The bay also houses storage facilities for F-302Fs and maintenance drones, remote-piloted robotic assistants that aid in repairs and inspections.
